Civilite series
Geological time is difficult to grasp. Earth's plates in constant motion and eras revealed by what we find of them in the earth, ice and atmosphere. As our clock ticks, tectonic plates shift to the geological rhythms beneath our roads and cities. Resources become utensils, utensils degenerate into commodities.
With the series Civilite, I try to create an image of our era in the distant future, where objects have emerged in newly exposed layers of earth. The fossilized objects are mostly remains of cultural consumer electronics. Generally, these electronic utensils reflect the relationship between technology and culture, in a specific era. Consider, for example, audio devices such as cassettes, earbuds and remote controls. The fossilized objects have (had) added value in our lives, moving through the transition from the analog era to the current digital era. What remains is the artifact of their preserved form.
